What Carrier-Managed Leave Management Offers

Updated: Nov 25, 2024

Absence Management is the administration of all things leave management and I wanted to provide a little Absence 101:

  • Leave Entitlement

    • The amount of time off an employee is legally allowed to take from work each year, based on their employment contract and company policy. This includes public holidays, personal time, parental leave, etc.

    • Employers do not want the burden of time tracking for FMLA. There are multiple different ways to track time and mistakes are costly.

    • Employees want peace of mind that their job is protected and proper maintenance of their leave entitlement is paramount to the employee’s experience.

    • Employers want to outsource their leave management to ensure they are following all of the federal and state guidelines to protect themselves and their employees.

  • Leave Accommodation

    • When an employer allows an employee to take time off work as a reasonable accommodation due to a disability or medical condition, enabling them to receive treatment or recover w/o fear of losing their job.

    • Outsourcing allows a team of professionals to make leave determinations and take the risks off of the employer.

    • With the newest Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, we are seeing a lot more lawsuits where employees are winning with the EEOC behind them.

  • Leave with Pay

    • Managing an employee’s time off and what % of pay they are allowed under their working states laws.

    • Whoever is administering the leave must adhere to all of the laws in each state where the employees work.

    • Each paid leave state is different and if there are multiple employees in different states, the employer would need an experienced HR team to manage the intricacies of each state and that is why they should outsource.
